Pakistan is the 4th largest motorbike manufacturer in the world, says Prime Minister Imran Khan

What happened: On Feb 2, a day before leaving for his visit to Beijing, Prime Minister Imran Khan met with prominent businessmen in Islamabad where he stated that Pakistan has surpassed China as the world’s fourth largest bike manufacturer. Details: Regarding the automobile industry, PM Khan noted that tractor exports increased by 10%, with the country producing 90% of the components. This isn’t the first time the premier has mentioned the apparent prosperity of the bike sector as he stated in 2021 that in the fiscal year 2020-2021, Pakistan saw the largest number of motorbike sales in history. The meeting: Saqib Sheerazi of Honda Atlas, Ali Asghar Jamali of Indus Motors, Ghiasuddin Khan of Engro, Sikander Mustafa of Millat Tractors, and other top-tier Pakistani businessmen were present at the meeting. Why it matters: PM Khan said that the low-income portion of the country is improving, citing record-breaking motorcycle sales as proof. The PM believes that increased motorbike sales reflect “aam admi ki sawari,” or “common man’s ride,” because bikes are known as “aam admi ki sawari.”
