Many local businesses have taken the initiative to hand paint simple fabrics and transform them into graceful sarees, dupattas and kurtas. You might have witnessed celebrities such as Mahira Khan, Sadaf Kanwal and Mansha Pasha donning hand painted sarees on social media, indicating how such styles are slowly penetrating into the fashion industry.

To welcome you into the world of hand painted attire, we compiled a list of 7 local Pakistani businesses that will leave you astonished with their talent and skill. 

1. Shahkaar By Adila

@shahkaarbyadila is well known amongst the lovers of hand painted attire. The founder, Adila began painting as a hobby but soon transformed it into a business as more and more people wanted to get their hands on her pieces. Shahkaar by Adila works mostly on organza, chiffon, lawn and tissue. Their most admired piece is the ‘Organza Hibiscus Sari’ which is priced at Rs. 16,200. Shahkaar’s latest collection includes block printed pieces such as Ghagras, Sarees and Kaftans. Perfect for the upcoming spring!

2. Aaish Studio

@aaish.studio was gifted to Ayesha by her children on Mother’s Day in 2020. Ayesha has been painting on clothes since the early 2000s. This consistent practise has only improved her skill to the point of perfection. Aaish Studio creates a range of clothing. They are particularly admired for their hand painted pocket squares, as they were the first ones to introduce them in Pakistan. Their price ranges from Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 7,000 for pocket squares, Rs. 6,000 to 8,000 for scarves and their dupatta collection starts from Rs. 11,000. We are fans of their matching his-and-her sets!

3. Sheer Silks Luxe

Fawzia founded the @sheersilks_official back in 1992. They offer exclusive hand painted fabrics in stitched and unstitched form. Their collection includes plain painted outfits and embellishment on painted fabrics. Sheer Silk Luxe is also one of the first and only brands, which offers Swarovski embellished and chantilly laced fabric Their price ranges between Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 100,000. A saree from Sheer Silks Luxe is all you need to make you feel luxurious. 

4. Ruhe

Although Atif studies Architecture, his love for painting made him launch Ruhe while still being enrolled at NCA. @Ruhepk is a one-stop-shop for beautiful dupattas, sarees and scarves. Their 2021 bridal campaign includes organza dupattas with lace borders. At Ruhe they believe that their muse is and always will be the ‘Women of Pakistan’. They are inspired by a reflection of a woman’s empowering nature, mystery and charm. Their best selling article is the ‘Suraj Mukhi Saree’. It got its hype due to its rich material which is pure tissue organza and its handpainted intricate design. We’re sure Sanam Saeed isn’t the only one drooling over this saree. 

5. Anam Asif Ali

Anam started this initiative in 2019 when she got a positive response on a dupatta she made for herself. @anamasifali is a brand of class and elegance. They are well-known amongst hand painting lovers. To order from them, you have to book a slot. It takes about a week for them to get your clothes ready. Their apparel range includes hand painted dupattas, sarees and scarves. Their sarees start from Rs. 20,000 and go up depending on the design. Our personal favourite is their ‘Light Beige Silk Saree with Mix Flowers’, which one is yours? 

6. HathKaari

Eesha started her Instagram brand in August. Ever since then, she has curated an array of beautiful designs. @hathkaaribyeesha also offers 100% customised designs with the fabric, colour and design of your choice. They deliver to your doorstep in 18 to 20 days. Their dupattas are priced at Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 5,000. Try their ‘Summer Breeze’ dupatta with any shirt to elevate the look!

7. Quas

Started in August 2020, @quasbymaheen sells hand painted fabrics ‘artisanally crafted with love’. The brand is based in Islamabad and ships its articles all over Pakistan. Maheen’s work will attract you if you are an admirer of darker colours. Along with dupattas and sarees Quas also does handbags, wraps and shalwar kamiz.
