Opposition parties are planning to mark this year’s Pakistan Day with a ‘Mehengai March’

What happened: On January 2, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl’s president, Maulana Fazlur Rehman confirmed the participation of Pakistan Democratic Movement’s components parties in ‘Mehengai March’ that will take place in Islamabad on March 23. Details: Maulana Fazl disclosed the information to reporters after chairing a meeting for PDM’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter at the JUI-F Secretariat where they planned the line of action for the proposed march. He further reported that participants agreed for the date to remain unchanged due to the second phase of local government elections. Murtaza Abbasi, Amir Muqam, and Sikandar Sherpao, leaders of the opposition alliance’s component parties, attended the conference as well. What else: Speaking about his recent local bodies elections’ win, Maulana Fazl rejected the notion that his party’s victory had anything to do with the evolving situation in Afghanistan or a pact with the authorities. For the second phase of the LG elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he predicted that the ruling party of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf will lose again.
