What happened : With Eidul Azha less than two weeks away, officials in Balochistan reported two Congo virus cases on Thursday. Details : The cases were confirmed by Dr Sadiq Baloch, additional medical superintendent at Quetta’s Fatima Jinnah Chest and General Hospital. She stated that both patients reported fever and bleeding from the mouth until they were diagnosed. Both of them are currently admitted in isolation wards. Furthermore, during the last one-and-a-half month, seven Congo virus patients were brought to the facility. Crimean Congo haemorrhagic fever, or Congo virus, is a viral infection transmitted by ticks to both animals and humans. The virus is transmitted by ticks living on the skin of goats, cows, buffalos and camels. The virus has a 10-40pc fatality rate. On the instructions of National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department has issued advisory guidelines to prevent Congo virus spread in cattle markets, especially before Eidul Azha.
