No swimming pool this summer for women in burkinis: France

What happened:  The CNN article quotes,  “A day at the pool will be out of reach for some women this summer in the eastern French city of Grenoble after a higher court upheld a ban on full-length swimsuits known as burkinis in public swimming pools.”  It is pertinent to mention that the development comes at a time when the local Muslim women had protested against the allowance of bathers at public pools in Grenoble to use the swimwear. Details:  The French Council of State also cited the principles of religious neutrality and stated that  Burkini would undermine the equal treatment of users so that the neutrality of the public service compromised.”  At the same time, the French Council stated,  “Contrary to the claimed objective of the city of Grenoble, initial decision to authorize the burkini aimed only to satisfy a demand of a religious nature.”
