The meta-movie project will be directed by Tom Gormican with the script being written by Kevin Etten.
The plot will supposedly follow Nicholas Cage starring as himself attempting to get a role in a new Quentin Tarantino movie while simultaneously balancing a tense relationship with his teenage daughter. There will also be flashbacks to talks with a narcissistic 1990’s version of himself who he will admonish for not starring in enough good movies and for not ‘being a star anymore’.
The story will supposedly take inspiration from some of Cage’s earlier work including ‘Leaving Las Vegas’, ‘Face-Off’ and ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’.
According to sources, when the screenwriter approached Cage for the role he was quick to mention that the movie was to praise the actor rather than mock him.
Interest in the project is allegedly very high with production companies such as HBO Max and Paramount fighting for the rights to the film. However, Lionsgate beat them out and will be holding the final negotiations for the meta-movie.
