These musicians start impromptu concerts on their rooftops. Instruments such as the qanun, the bass and even the drums can be heard playing in neighbourhoods in Iran.
One musician explained, “It is not easy for me to stay at home and not be on stage or in studio during quarantine, so I … play tar on the roof, to share my emotions with the neighbours.” Many musicians have commented on the therapeutic effects of playing their music before an audience of neighbours.
Though not essential workers, these musicians have offered comfort and entertainment amidst the gloom surrounding the virus.
