What Happened: Multan Sultans triumphed over Peshawar Zalmi in the final to win their maiden Pakistan Super League (PSL) title in the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. Zalmi fans disheartened for the third time in four seasons as Multan Sultans thrashed them by 47 runs in the exhilarating final.

Sohaib Maqsood celebrated his Pakistan recall at 34 after 5 years with an unbeaten 65, and South African Rilee Rossouw reserved his greatest for the ultimate by smashing 50 off 21 balls in Multan’s imposing whole of 206-4. Multan put up a blistering show of power-hitting, through Sohaib and Rossouw to comfortably cross the 200 mark. Zalmi was left perplexed as the rampant Multan batting plundered 116 runs from the last eight overs. Khushdil Shah rubbed more salt into Peshawar’s wounds by smacking two consecutive sixes off Amad Butt, who went for 21 runs in the final over. The Sultans triumphed over Zalmi by 48 runs to win their first PSL title. Amidst fireworks, confetti and music, Multan Sultans lifted their first PSL.

Shahnawaz Dahani, the emerging player of the tournament, won the best baller award. Sohaib Maqsood won the accolade of the Player of the Tournament, as well as the Best Batter Award. Multan Sultan’s wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan added another feather to his name on Thursday when he became the most successful Pakistani wicket-keeper in an edition of any T20 tournament, around the world.
