Details : Twitter user Eurus (twt: hexatiouz) shared a video of Mufti Tariq Masood on her account in which the Mufti is sharing a story about of how he got his 13-year-old niece married as it is allowed in Islam.

What happened : Eurus expresses how furious she is about Mufti promoting child marriages. “Anyone under 18 cannot consent to getting married.” In the video, Tariq Masood tells how he got his niece married despite of his entire family being against him, “Humne tou kerwadi uski shadi, phir pucha bhi nahi Matric kia usne ya nahi. Mian biwi ke apas ka masla hai.” The Twitter user continues to say that this man should be arrested for forcing a child into marriage.

More : Pakistani activists have urged Islamabad to raise the marriage age to 18 years old. In all sections of the country, the minimum age for marriage is now 16, except in Sindh, where the minimum age is 18. In 1990, Pakistan adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), declaring its commitment to defend children’s rights and to end child marriage. In Pakistan, 21% of females are married before they reach the age of 18. These laws are frequently faced with opposition, labelled non-Islamic, and have been overturned by various courts.
