What happened: On Wednesday, Twitter user @AyoOlatunji8 shared his frustrating experience with the NHS as they subject him and his family to islamophobic and racist treatment. He stated that the Black/PoC and/or Muslim patients are treated like “animals, or as subhuman and being neglected by so called ‘healthcare professionals.’”
This is the same healthcare service I will end up working for. There is a real arrogance, spinelessness and soullessness in “healthcare professionals” such as these. So many of us have stories and experiences of our health being neglected and ignored it has to change.

As backwards as this behavior may seem, this is not an isolated case. There have been many similar cases in the past where Muslims and people of colour have been subjected to discrimination at the hands of the British healthcare system. Here are some of the experiences people shared in response to the Twitter user’s thread;
yes. I have a disabled sister – every time my mother takes her to the hospital (both wear a headscarf) they are treated in an incredibly repugnant way to the extent that both have returned home on several instances crying.

Sorry you experienced that. I also received terrible treatment in the Orthopaedics department at Uni Hospital N DU last year @CDDFTNHS only worry was to protect the identity of the perpetrator during my complaint. Most NHS staff are wonderful, some others need urgent D&I training

I had a similar experience with my mum when she was admitted a couple weeks ago, her experience was horrible, so many times she was shouted at & neglected, she speaks broken English & couldn't stand up for herself a lot of times

I experienced the worst treatment of my life under the NHScare system. After negligence/malpractice led to a major operation, Homerton treated me in the most inhuman way possible. Ive never seen more disgusting behavior. The staff lacks respect/empathy/compassion. @CEOHomerton
