Man arrested for raping an 87 year old bedridden woman

What happened: On February 15, BBC News reported,  “A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping an 87-year-old woman in India’s national capital, Delhi.”  The 30-year-old Delhi man is said to be a sweeper near the residence of an 87-year-old in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area. The incident took place on February 13 when the woman was alone at her Tilak Nagar residence; as BBC reported,  “The woman, who is bedridden, was alone at home when she was attacked and robbed.”

Details: On the other hand, the victim’s family alleged that the police were responsible as they only registered a robbery complaint and not rape. At the same time, the publication quoted the victim’s relative,  “The police allegedly told the victim and her daughter not to pursue the rape case as it would be stressful for them. The police registered a theft case and didn’t even inform us.”

More: National Women’s Commission of India has also written a letter to the Delhi police for immediate action while urging the authorities to arrest the accused.  No One Is Safe  noted the Commission and BBC’s report highlights,  “Rape and sexual violence have been under the spotlight in India since the 2012 gang rape and murder of a young woman on a bus in Delhi.”
