In a shocking move, Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the appointment of ambassador Munir Akram as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, in place of Maleeha Lodhi, as part of a major reshuffle in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Akram was previously appointed to the position from 2002 to 2008. The move comes after Imran Khan’s much lauded mission to the UNGA last week.
Other changes in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
The foreign affairs ministry shuffle includes appointment of director general (UN) Khalil Ahmad Hashmi as the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN in Geneva; Additional Secretary (AIT) at MoFa Muhammad Aejaz as Pakistan’s ambassador to Hungary; Pakistani Charge d’ Affaires to Pyongyang Syed Sajjad Haider as the new ambassador to Kuwait.
