The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his “gratitude and admiration” during a farewell call for Lodhi, who will retire from her post as UN ambassador for Pakistan After a four and a half year run, ambassador Lodhi will be stepping down from her post on October 31st. Lodhi met with the UN chief at his office to bid farewell after completion of her part in the Pakistan Mission to UN, or as Lodhi calls it, the Voice of Kashmir. Guterres expressed his sadness over seeing Maleeha go, saying she had done her country proud, according to sources.
“You represented the country in a remarkable way…engaged in all issues at the UN, not just those involving Pakistan. That’s how you elevated the profile of Pakistan here,” said Guterres.
As her final act, Ambassador Lodhi brought up the plight of Kashmiris as the military lockdown continues in the region, urging the UN chief to play his role in preventing the worsening situation and speaking out on it. She also mentioned Pakistan’s quest for peace with all neighbours, including India, pointing out efforts to facilitate peace process between Afghanistan and USA.
“Representing Pakistan at the world’s most important multilateral forum was both a privilege and an enormous responsibility,” Maleeha had said.
