Twitter users bashed Malala Yousufzai, following her heavily centered, diplomatic comments on the Israel Attack on Jerusalem. Malala tweeted regarding the recent escalation in the region, following an attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque on Friday by Israeli police, leaving hundreds wounded and dozens dead, as reported by Palestinian authorities. What did Malala say? Replying to a prior tweet by UNICEF, Malala called out the violence in Jerusalem, criticizing the loss of lives due the “conflict”, and urged world leaders to unite in resolving the crisis once and for all. Soon, twitter users caught on to the wording of the tweets, calling it “hypocritical”, “western-backed” and “disappointingly neutral”.
How did Twitter react? Twitter users slammed Malala’s comments, calling out her shrewd hypocrisy in not standing for the Palestinians suffering in Jerusalem. Others called out the irony of “Qoum ki beti”, who has lost the Muslim heritage and is now heavily influenced by western agenda. Many called this is a result of her Oxford education, which has prompted her to not speak against the atrocities carried out by Israel. On the other hand, some people raised support for Malala, bashing her critics for being overly aggressive and for ignoring world leaders who assumed a similar approach. Let us look at some of the tweets from #Malala, currently trending on Pakistani twitter.
