What happened: Officials from the Sindh Wildlife Department reported 27 stranded Indus dolphins on Sunday in various canals of the river downstream of the Sukkur Barrage. Details: Authorities at the Sukkur Indus Dolphin Sanctuary stated that the stranded dolphins would not be rescued due to the current water flow. He claimed that none of them were in danger. Local villagers near Mirwah, a water canal located in Thari of Khairpur district informed Sindh Wildlife Department officials on Wednesday. “We were informed about four dolphins sighted in the canal,” said Adnan Hamid Khan, Deputy Conservator for the Sukkur division. Four other endangered Indus blind dolphins have reportedly been spotted175 kilometers away from their natural habitat.
