Maryam Nawaz who had first approached LHC with her petition for removing her name from the ECL on Dec 7th, is now again going to hear a decision on her second plea. The first one got disposed by the LHC on December 9th and was sent for the federal government’s review committee to decide on the matter within seven days.
In the latest petition filed by her lawyers on Saturday December 21st, 2019, Muhammad Amjad Pervaiz and Azam Nazeer Tarar, the PML-N vice president is once again seeking a one-time permission to travel abroad for six weeks from the date of departure.
The petition reads,
“The respondent government be kindly directed to delete the name of the petitioner from Exit Control List forthwith. Meanwhile, pending the disposal of the instant petition, the petitioner may kindly be granted one-time permission to travel abroad for six weeks from the date of departure.”
A two-member bench headed by Justice Baqir Najfi will hear the second petition.
The names of both father and daughter, Mian Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, were placed on the ECL on August 20th, 2018. However, Nawaz has travelled to London last month after the government and courts granted him leave to fly abroad on medical grounds.
Maryam, on the other hand, though is free on bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case, her name still remains on the no-fly list.
