Earlier today, sound system and video vendor, DJ butt was arrested by the police and a case was registered against him for possessing illegal weapons. Butt is also being charged with obstructing public servants from discharging their duties and manhandling policemen.
The entertainer who gained fame from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) 2014 sit-in, is now behind bars ahead of the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) Lahore rally for which he was expected to arrange the sound system — as he has for the PDM’s past public meetings. Commenting on the arrest, PDM spokesperson Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that the government was acting irrationally because it was scared of the opposition’s might.
The Opposition is adamant about continuing its protest against the ruling PTI government across the country, despite the fact that the Punjab government has denied them permission to hold a public gathering, by citing a surge in coronavirus cases. The Opposition is also devising a strategy for mass resignations from the assemblies and planning a long march to Islamabad.
