Lahore Necklace: A Brief History

During the recent coronation of King Charles, one aspect that people are talking about is the necklace that Camelia was wearing. The coronation necklace was stolen from Lahore, it was assembled for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1858. Since then it has been passed down in the Royal family and has been worn by successive Queens additionally it has also been worn at state functions.

The story of the necklace is an intriguing one. In 1849, the British took over the Lahore Fort and then captured the greatest treasures of the world, “Toshakhana”, which are now little known to the region.

Queen Victoria had a necklace made from 28 stones that were removed from Garter Badge and a sword, which were also in Lahore. The necklace weighs up to 161 carats and is among the most expensive necklaces in the world.
