Lahore man faces 6 months of jail time over second marriage without consent

What happened: Lahore’s resident, identified as Ghulam Rasool, was arrested on February 4 from the premises of Lahore High Court as he had married without the consent of his 1st wife. Pakistan Daily reported,  “During the hearing, Justice Atiya Neelam instructed the police to arrest the convict immediately after the proceeding.”

Details: Subsequently, local publications reported that Ghulam Rasool was sentenced to six months in prison along with a fine of 650,000 rupees. At the same time, Pakistan Daily quoted,  “Fine was imposed on him for keeping his first wife in the dark and marrying for the second time.”

More: On the other hand, Ghulam Rasool has filed an application against the sentence in the Lahore High Court. Ghulam Rasool’s lawyers are quoted by a publication as,  “The police did not conduct a proper and complete investigation in this case.”  It is pertinent to mention that an FIR against Rasool was filed at the Mianwali police station. However, Justice Neelam has now remarked that a single bench of LHC would begin hearing Ghulam Rasool’s plea application from next week.
