The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced its decision to launch a scholarship program for the students of religious seminaries. The program will be called the Rehmatul Lil Alameen Scholarship Programme.
What Happened: In a meeting of the Auqaf & Religious Affairs Department with Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan, the CM urged the concerned officials to launch the scholarship program as soon as possible. He also directed the authorities to take measures to increase the monthly salaries of registered Khateebs in the province and give monthly stipends to prayer leaders from the beginning of the upcoming financial year. The payment of a monthly stipend to prayer leaders would cost the government around Rs3.25 billion annually with prayer leaders of the main mosques getting Rs10,000 per month stipend. Besides Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Auqaf Zahoor Shakir, Auqaf secretary, and Auqaf administrator, the meeting was attended by officials of Auqaf and finance departments. The Response: The initiative has been received positively by the public.
