What happened: In collaboration with Beyond Meat, a supplying company which offers plant-based meat substitutes, Kentucky Fried Chicken will be introducing ‘Beyond Fried Chicken,’ the restaurant’s first plant-based chicken, on Jan 10, nationwide in the United States of America. Details: The product was not “made in a vegan/vegetarian manner,” according to the KFC and Beyond Meat press statement. When a limited-run test for the plant-based alternative chicken in Aug 2019 at one Atlanta store sold out in less than five hours, KFC became the first national U.S. restaurant chain to serve plant-based chicken. Ethan Brown, CEO of Beyond Meat stated: “The product delivers the great experience consumers expect from this renowned restaurant, but also gives the added advantages of plant-based meat. The product: Beyond Fried Chicken comes in six to twelve pieces per order, or in a combo with a dipping sauce. Prices may vary depending on region, but will begin at $6.99, excluding tax. Speaking of the accomplishment, Kevin Hochman, president, KFC US, said in a news release, “The mission from day one was simple – make the world-famous Kentucky Fried Chicken from plants, and after two years we’ve succeeded.”
