What happened: On March 20, a Karachi resident took to Facebook group, ‘The SWOT’s Guide to KARACHI Restaurants Cafes Dhabas,’ sharing a video of Saltanat Restaurant, located at Dalmia Road, where waiters opened fire on each other due to a fight. Details: In his caption, the Karachiite wrote, “Fight between waiters. Straight firing. It was horrible. Alhumdulillah we were lucky enough to escape.” Another witness to the incident named Tayyab Khan backed the incident, “NO MANAGEMENT, 400 PEOPLE FIGHTING, THROWING BOTTLES AND CHAIRS EVERYTHING POSSIBLE AND THEY CLOSED THE GATES,” adding that guards opened fire and valet people started running and panicking. Other commentators asked why the waiters were carrying weapons in the first place as Kashan Faiz Sajjad commented, “Looks something pre-planned. How can waiters carry weapons? They are completely checked while entering and exiting the premises.” What else: Other Karachiites chimed in, suggesting that the restaurant should be permanently sealed after this, M Sarmad Khan said, “This is enough to seal the restaurant permanently. The waiters should be behind bars.” While another user, Ahmed Raza Gaziani said that his experience with the restaurant was good as he found the waiters to be cooperative, “The restaurant should be sealed if that’s the case. This news is shocking.” It is pertinent to mention the video in question has now been deleted.
