Karachi man on a job-hunt removed ‘Baloch’ from his CV due to discriminatory encounter at bank

What happened: Team Propergaanda reached out to Faizan*, a Baloch man residing in Karachi, who went for a walk-in interview at Meezan Bank’s I.I Chundrigar Road branch and had a discriminatory encounter with an employee there due to Faizan’s* Baloch identity. Details: Faizan* shared that the man who interviewed him first commented on his shirt, “I ignored it.” The employee then examined his CV which mentioned Faizan’s* ethnicity; Baloch. “The man said ‘aap Baloch lagte tou nahi hain’ and proceeded to ask if I belonged to Balochistan too?” Faizan* answered no, and inquired what difference would that make? The interviewer told him that ‘young men in Balochistan are getting involved in terrorism.’ How it ended: Faizan* told the employee that his statement sounds discriminatory, “Mere samajh nahi areha tha main unhe kia bolun, phir unhone wapis meri shirt pe comment kia aur kaha ke larkiyoun wala blouse change kerke aao phir interview liya jayega aapka,” Faizan* then told them that he isn’t coming back and left the office. Why it matters: Faizan* shared further that he removed his ‘Baloch’ identity from his CV, “Yeh din agaya hai ke humen apni shanakht chupaani parh rehi hai,” adding that the narrative that Baloch men don’t love their country is completely false, “They think we are terrorists but that’s not true.”
