Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl leader and Deputy Chairman of Senate Abdul Ghafoor Haideri had said that Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa invited the JUI-F delegation for a meeting before last year Azadi march, where he insisted that the party ‘calls off the Azadi March’ held against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government.
While talking to a private media news outlet, Maulana further claimed that the Army Chief asked them to stop anti-government protests, and urged them not to interfere in the matters of what the establishment is doing with Nawaz Sharif.
Last year in October JUI-F leader MaulanaFazl-ur-Rehman organised Azadi March in a bid to oust the government. He held a two-week-long protest in the capital city Islamabad, on October 31. He later called off his March, saying that he had been assured that the general election would take place in the next three months.
