What happened: On Jan 11, the Islamabad High Court ordered the capital’s authorities to seal Monal Restaurant and seize control of the Navy Golf Course, which was built on encroached territory. They also ruled the military’s claim to 8,000 acres of the Margalla Hills National Park as unconstitutional. The hearing: During a hearing on encroachments in the national park, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah gave the directives to ICT Chief Commissioner, Amer Ali Ahmed. The climate change secretary demanded for Islamabad’s master plan to be made public as the judge stated that the law should be properly followed. The verdict: Following the judge’s orders, CDA authorities proceeded with the decision of sealing Monal Restaurant. The Environmental Protection Agency has been ordered to prepare a report on the park’s damages caused by construction. The CDA will take over the Margalla Greens Golf Club today, according to the IHC. The defense secretary guaranteed that the court’s directives will be followed and from now on the armed forces’ three wings will not engage in any illegal construction.
