Islamabad Hostels Instructed To Keep A Close Watch On Student Residents

The district authorities have asked hostel managements to regulate movements of hostel residents, especially students, to prevent them from engaging in criminal activity

A notice stated that the district magistrate offices had received complaints about a lack of discipline in private hostels; the office also claims to have police reports confirming that students remain outside of hostels at night and no record of their movement is maintained.

“These students have sometimes been found involved in crimes and at times falling victim to criminal activities,” said the notice.

All hostels are required to maintain a complete entry and exit record of student residents, and no students are allowed to remain outside of the hostel after 10 pm without informing their parents, said the advisory notice. Sources also said that police officers would also conduct surprise inspections of hostels, including those of universities. Officials claim these strict measurements are being taken to ensure the safety of female students. The notice has also been regulated online, and garnered much criticism from users.
