What happened: On Apr 15, the Islamabad High Court has ordered the Federal Investigation Agency to stop harassing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf social media activists and has summoned the director of the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing to appear in court today. Details: Ali Nawaz Awan submitted a lawsuit challenging the raids on the houses of PTI’s social media workers, which was heard by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah. Respondents cited by Awan included the interior secretary, the inspector generals of police of Islamabad and Punjab, the FIA director general, and the FIA Cyber Wing director. The petition: According to the petition, illegal raids were carried out on the houses of PTI social media activists, and various cases were filed against them at the ruling party’s request. It went on to say that the PTI workers’ families were also being harassed. After the government was changed, Awan notified the court that FIA also raided the residence of PTI’s social media chief, Dr Arsalan Khalid. What’s next: As the court summoned the director of the FIA Cyber Crime Wing today, it ordered for the harassment of political workers and social media activists to cease. The FIA should not harass social media activists in any form, according to the chief justice.
