What happened: It is pertinent o mention that the Government of Pakistan announced the citizens to carry their Covid-19 vaccination certificates always with themselves. Subsequently, the government of Pakistan is charging 100 rupees for the digital vaccination certificate, keeping in mind that almost 60 million Pakistanis are deemed “illiterate” as the literacy rate is more than 60% in the country. SOAS graduate Bilal I Gilani made shocking revelations in his Twitter thread.
Details: Bilal I Gilani tweeted, “NADRA issued over 25 million Covid certificates at 100 Rs. 2.5 billion PKR earned out ppls pockets.” At the same time, it is important to highlight that the Pakistanis who don’t have access to the internet are forced to head over to the photocopy shops adding another additional charge of 10 for the print and for lamination another 20 rupees is added. On the other hand, Bilal added, “Across the border, it’s free and also available instantly using WhatsApp rather than online.”
More: Adding in his Twitter thread, “Considering only 40% of the Pakistanis use the internet, the choice of either physical or internet-based access is also very insensitive.” Bilal concluded his thread by writing, “Here where 100 Rs is usually ho much an average person meal costs for the day, certificate cost from ppls pocket is unfair.”
