Indian Police Shoot Four Suspected In Raping And Killing A Vet

Indian police in Hydrabad have shot dead four men suspected in the rape and murder of a vet in the region.

Last week, the alleged rapists were arrested as they were suspected of a gang rape in the region which caused massive public outrage.

The police escorted the alleged rapists to the crime scene early morning on Friday for crime reconstruction.

However, the suspects then attacked the police party and attempted to flee the scene, reports the additional director general for law and order, Telangana Police. Following this, the police shot the suspects and the four men were killed.

A deputy commissioner of police in Hyderabad, Prakash Reddy, told AFP news agency that the suspects “tried to snatch weapons from the guards but were shot dead”.

He added, “We called an ambulance but they died before any medical help could reach them.”

On Thursday, November 28th the burnt body of a 27 year old women was found in Shadnagar, a town roughly 50km from Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana state.

Her body was found by a local passing by the underpass. It has been wrapped in a blanket and dosed with kerosene.

The women has been missing since the night before the incident with police alleging that the suspects offered to fix the tyres on her motorcycle and then proceeded to take her to a secluded area where the crime was committed.

Following this, on November 30th thousands of protesters gathered outside a police station in the outskirts of Hyderabad where the suspected were being kept demanding that police hand the suspects over to the public.

The Chief Minister of the state assured the public that the case would be fast-tracked. The outraged locals demanded quick and tough punishments even going as far as to demand public lynchings.

The victim’s mother told the media that she wanted the suspects to be burned alive.

This incident has sparked immense outrage in the country that has also spilled into the international sphere. The last sexual assault case in India to triggered this reaction was the gang rape and murder of a student on a bus in New Delhi in 2012.
