What happened: A 66 year old, Indian doctor Bibhu Prakash Swain conned more than 20 women and reports quote him as “Odisha’s biggest impostor.” Bibhu was monitored for more than eight months by Odisha’s police before his arrest and it was reported, “He was guilty of defrauding 13 banks out of INR10 million through forged credit cards, as well as cheating individuals in Hyderabad out of millions by making false promises.”
Details: At the same time, a local publication noted that the 66-year-old Indian doctor “Preyed on unsuspecting women looking for security and love.” Subsequently, Bibhu went on to matrimonial sites as posed as a government official to target “Women above 40 who were divorced, struggling with family issues or looking to escape societal pressures through marriages.”
More: However, he was later arrested and Odisha’s deputy commissioner stated, “Bibhu took full advantage of the women’s helplessness and laid elaborate trap.” Bibhu married women from different countries and robbed their jewellery, cash and sometimes would ask for loans from the bride’s family. The Odisha police have yet to determine how much money he conned from different women, but they have collected more than 200,00 INR.
