After almost fives months since the Indian authorities downgraded Kashmir’s semi-autonomy and imposed a strict security and communications lockdown, the Indian government is going to restore text messaging services in occupied Kashmir on Wednesday January 1st 2020.
Rohit Kansal, the local government spokesperson, said “the decision was made after a review of the situation.”
He also said that internet services will also be restored in government hospitals. However, the restriction on the usage of internet for the other users will remain.
This is because the authorities fear that if internet is provided to everyone, the separatists will demand independence from India and provoke protests.
