What happened: In the past week, a Twitter account came to light, which was claimed to be Shehbaz Sharif and was tweeting and joining different Twitter spaces. However, now the imposter behind the account has been arrested, as the Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Digital Media announced on Twitter. Whereas, it is pertinent to mention that the Twitter account was responsible for spreading disinformation regarding the government and officials through tweets. Details: The PM’s Focal Person on Digital Media, Abubaker Umer, announced, “Dissent is welcome. Disinformation is not. The person behind this account has been traced & apprehended for impersonating the PM & misleading…” At the same time, the arrested man has also confessed to the crime and a case under PECA 2016 r/w 419, 505 Pakistan Penal Code has been registered against him. However, the fake Twitter account was also verified and had over 30,000 followers.
