ILC dismissed Nawaz Sharif’s plea in Al-Aziza, Avenfield references

What happened: Islamabad High Court dismissed Nawaz Sharif’s plea against imprisonment sentences in Al-Aziza and Avenfield references. A nine-page judgment was pronounced by the jury on Thursday.

Background: The former prime minister had filed appeals with the Islamabad High Court against the accountability court. The IHC judgment claimed that Nawaz Sharif is a proclaimed offender and hence there was no choice but to dismiss the pleas due to his continued disappearance from the court. The IHC judges Justice Justice Umar Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar pronounced a nine-page judgment which was reserved after listening to the argument of the National Accountability Bureau prosecutor and amicus curiae. The judgment further observed that if Nawaz Sharif returns or is caught by the authorities, an application for renewal of appeals can be filed. Click here to see more from ProperGaanda.
