Hamza, cricket fan and we’re assuming amateur player as well, sent a video of a street cricket match being played to the ICC asking it to confirm whether the batsman was out or not out.
A fan named Hamza sent this video to us this morning asking for a ruling. Unfortunately for the (very unlucky) batsman, law 32.1 confirms… Out! ā pic.twitter.com/y3Esgtz48x ā ICC (@ICC) May 22, 2018
As you can see in the video, the batsman makes quite rigorous contact with the ball, but because of the strong wind the ball falls back, sneaks between his legs, and hits the wicket. Amateur street cricket is played all over Pakistan, but what makes this particular match special is that the ICC intervened! We can imagine Hamza must have been shocked and ecstatic.
Some people responding to ICC’s ruling were appreciating the fact that the council took the time out to respond to such a request.
Others jokingly pointed out that according to ‘local cricket rules’ when the ball returns after being hit it is ‘not out’; this rule is actually what the batsman is also yelling about in Sindhi.
The ICC ruling also inspired feelings of national spirit as people boasted about the talent and intelligence of their local amateur cricket players:
Everyone really had a lot of fun with this, so a big shoutout to the ICC for taking notice! It’s times like these that remind us to appreciate the little things.
Here’s an explanation of the rule the ICC was talking about if you’re interested!
