On Aug 17, high-end designer Maria Fatima Butt took to her Instagram stories to support ISL x TED’s decision of removing policy practitioner and trans-activist, Dr. Moiz Mehrub Awan as their speaker, “Well done, ISL School!! My kids are at ISL and we as parents decide who are the real role models for our kids.”
The designer wrote that she came across Dr.Moiz on Instagram a few months ago and heard 5 minutes of her live session, “The language was so inappropriate and they were smoking joints and were high; are these role models for our kids? Really? The abusive language was shocking and what are their achievements? Industry leader? Gold medalist? So excuse us for deciding what we want for our kids to look up to.” Misgendering? Maria B further went on that Dr.Moiz is not from Khuwajasira community, he is a man transitioned into a woman, “We have all the love and respect for khuwajasiras. Our kids need to know the difference between genderless and trans community.” She further stated the difference between a transgender and hermaphrodites as she believes that even our lawmakers don’t understand the difference when they are coining certain clauses. How Dr. Moiz replied: Educating the designer on Pakistan’s Transgender Persons Act 2018, the trans-activist called out Maria B for making transphobic comments, “Calling me a hermaphrodite is incorrect, and we all know your brand is failing and that is why you have to do such public stunts.” Stating how bad she feels for the designer’s kids, Dr.Moiz wrote, “Genuinely feel bad for her kids who have to endure a classist parent who mistreats house help during Covid and then uses trans-phobia to cultivate lost cult.”
What you need to know: 4 speakers, including Ghazi Taimoor and Ammar Ali Jan, have walked out of the event in solidarity with Dr.Moiz, “You all have axed yourself. I humbly request the ISL to give the legendary Maria B an honorary position in Biology professor. Why should only her children be blessed with such impeccable knowledge? We all must be blessed with it too,” says Dr.Moiz, taking a dig at her ‘gender concepts.’
