Here’s why Nida Kirman thinks that ‘banning’ social media would help free press

What happened:   A professor from LUMS and sociologist Nida Kirmani(@nidkirm), in a Twitter thread, revealed her opinion on why social media should be banned in the country? In a Twitter Space, Khan had said that he watches social media, instead of the mainstream media, to stay updated.  Details: In Nida’s opinion, a ban on social media would help,  “Ensuring a free & fair press so we can actually rely on the news for information & get back to debating ideas face-to-face.”  However, she also suggested that strict social media laws could help in this process too and hinder  “the promotion of violence.”  Later, Nida clarified that the tweet was inspired by  “Elon Musk bought(buying) Twitter, which raises further concerns about the nature of this space.”  Nida further clarified,  “a person who uses social media as much as I would not want a ban!”
