Team ProperGaanda has reached out to Kami Sid. This is a developing story, and we will update you as soon as possible.
Last night, journalist Muhammad Salman Khan and a number of different activists came out with rape allegations against Transgender activist Kami Sid and her boyfriend.
According to the post, Kami Sid and her boyfriend provided employment and a place to live to a young transgender women named Sana back in 2015. Kami and her boyfriend used to sexually abuse, torture and beat Sana. As Sana became homeless and jobless, she found refuge at with a Transgender guru, whom she narrated her ordeal. The guru tried to raise her voice, and allegedly told activists. Sana was unfortunately murdered earlier this year in 2019 by her lover and a murder case against her lover is still pending in the City Court, Karachi.
“For those who want evidence of Kami’s rape case there is a voice recording of a senior transgender representative who accepted that they had taken bribes to keep quiet about the rape incident, also WAF Karachi and another Karachi based HIV NGO PARWAAZ (where Kami worked while this rape incident happened) have the necessary documentation related to the rape case.” the post says.
According to the post, Kami Sid has threatened, verbally abused and even blackmailed people for speaking out against her. Other activists that have spoken about the alleged situation have also been targeted.
When asked why they came forward right now, one activist said that they were worried about how bigots will use this and create a security situation for transgender community, which is probably why other activists remained quiet. However, the activist felt that Kami Sid has been able to operate unaccounted for as a result.
If any of these allegations are true, it would be a sad day. Kami Sid is best known as one of Pakistan’s most prominent Transgender activists. Instrumental in creating the Trans protection bill, Kami Sid has broken barriers for the Transgeder community. Her short film, Rani, will be showcased at Cannes Film Festival this year.
