According to the PML-N President, the government has asked for the bonds in exchange for the removal of Nawaz’s name from the ECL list despite the courts having granted him permission to “receive treatment anywhere in Pakistan or abroad”.
The former premier was granted ‘one-time’ permission to travel abroad for treatment over four weeks provided that he submit an indemnity bond of 7 to 7.5 billion, a condition that PML-N immediately rejected.
“The entire nation is worried for Mian Nawaz Sharif, while this government is politicking on this matter,” said Shehbaz Sharif.
Shahbaz condemned the government’s “delaying tactics” on attempting to remove Nawaz’s name from the ECL, not hiding his sentiments as he claimed that the NAB, federal interior ministry and Punjab home dept were playing with his health by “tossing the matter at each other” repeatedly.
He also said there was no justification for the indemnity bonds as surety bonds worth millions of rupees had already been signed to secure his release on bail. He added that signing the indemnity bonds would result in PM Imran announcing to the nation that he had recovered the money from the Sharifs.
