Google selects UET Student for summer coding program

A student from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, has been nominated by Google to participate in the extremely competitive Google Summer of Code Programme 2021, according to the university’s press release.

What Happened: Ghulam Ghous, who is enrolled at the Computer Science Department of the UET, was selected under the project ‘Omni Project: Live Chat Widget – Accessible Mode’ that was organized in principle by Rocket. Chat, a renowned communication hub that facilitates team collaboration and organizes conversations for people with disabilities. About The Program: The Google Summer of Code Programme brings student developers from around the world into the field of open source software development. During the program, students work with various open-source organizations on a 10-week programming project during their break from academic institutions.

Google launches online coding programs to train workers for tech jobs

The Impact: This year 6,991 applications were submitted by 4,795 students from 103 countries out of which 1292 students were selected from 69 countries. Every year only 4 to 6 Students from Pakistan get selected in GSoC with this year’s count at 3. Ghulam Ghous is one of the three students. Not only is this a remarkable achievement for the university, but also for the country, as it serves as an inspiration for other Pakistani students who are ambitious about coding.
