Google is blocking 18 million Covid-19 scam emails every day

According to Google, scammers are sending 18 million scam emails to Gmail accounts daily.

The coronavirus pandemic has led to an increase in phishing attacks in which hackers trick users into revealing personal data.

Accounts posing as World Health Organisation (WHO) are becoming rampant as panic about the virus spreads. Clicking on these emails downloads several kinds of malware and bugs onto devices that receive them.

To tackle this problem, Google assured its users that it would block such emails. So far, the company has blocked at least 100 million of these kinds of emails.

Google claims that its machine-learning tools are able to block more than 99.9% of emails from reaching its users.
