What happened: Faisalabadi woman filed an FIR against his father for forcefully her in a room of their house in Faisalabad’s Chak Jhumra area. Reportedly, the daughter was chained as she was forced to marry someone of her parents’ liking. The victim also appeared in a local court. While appearing in court, she said, “I want to marry for love, but my parents threatened to kill me.”
Details: A viral video on social media also shows the chained daughter. Subsequently, the Faisalabad police took immediate action and arrested the accused before rescuing the girl. The viral video also revealed that the girl is being freed from the chains. It is pertinent to know that forced marriages in Pakistan are a case of concern, demanding attention from the authorities. At the same time, the Forced Marriage Act uses civil solutions avoiding criminalizing the family involved. Convicted under the Forced Marriage Act can be arrested and jailed for up to two years.
