Experts say wave 3 imminent, as India sees highest single-day COVID-19 deaths

New records: India saw its highest single-day death toll due to COVID-19 yesterday, as 3,971 people succumbed to the virus nationwide. It also saw cases rise up to 412,095, which is the highest single day spike yet.

The government forecast model had predicted this peak in the second week on Wednesday, and their calculations were accurate it seems.
The WHO has stated that India’s current figures of deaths and reported cases could be 10 times more than it is being reported. The WHO also stated that India has accounted for half the COVID-19 cases worldwide over the past one month, and quarter the deaths globally.

Current situation: Bodies have been piling up in graveyards and cremation grounds, as the healthcare system struggles to cope with the situation. A horrifying report by CNN showed how truly overwhelmed every hospital is in dealing with the COVID-19 crisis.

Even though vaccination efforts are in full swing, villages are without resources and in high danger. Many are huddled up in their houses with symptoms of COVID-19, however since there is no information and no medical facilities available the spread is not being contained and there are deaths at every second house.
Medical experts are now telling the nation to prepare for wave 3 because of the virus’ fast circulation in the highly populous rural areas.
Government’s current plan: Rahul Gandhi, leader of the Congress party has said that nation-wide lockdown is now the only solution. The BJP government has been reluctant in this move, however state governments have initiated their own prohibitions.

The Supreme Court has ordered authorities to supply Delhi hospitals with oxygen in under 24 hours, as supplies come in from around the world in limited amounts.

These dire circumstances have also halted vaccination efforts, as the nation of 1.4 billion struggles with logistics and shortages of doses.
