UN speak: The United Nations have told Israel to stop any further expansion and forced evictions in East Jerusalem. They have stated that any further action in this regard by Israel will be termed as war crimes. UN rights spokesperson said ‘We call on Israel to immediately stop all forced evictions’ on Friday. Rupert Colville further stated that the occupying power (Israel) cannot confiscate private property in occupied territories, and said that this was against all humanitarian laws.
Arrests in Jerusalem: Unfair arrests of Palestinian and Arab citizens countinued in East Jersualem by Israeli forces for the second night straight. Clashes erupted between Palestenian refugees and Jewish settlers. The main focus was on Palestenian homes built on ‘claimed’ Jewish land, and the case is expected to go to the Supreme Court.
Europe speaks: The UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain among others have urged Israel to halt settlement in East Jerusalem and in other parts of the occupied West Bank.
“We urge the government of Israel to reverse its decision to advance the construction of 540 settlement units in the Har Homa E area of the occupied West Bank, and to cease its policy of settlement expansion across the Occupied Palestinian Territories,” the European nations said in a statement.
The nations also said that if the settlements are not halted, it would cause further damage to the cause of a viable Palestinian state.
