What happened: Barrister @muhammad_ahmad_pansota in his tweet claimed, “Judgements passed by ECP Pakistan disqualifying Faisal Vawda is not sustainable in the eyes of law in light of dictum laid down in 2021 SCMR 16757 & 2021 SCMR..” It is pertinent to mention that on February 9, the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified PTI Senator Faisal Vawa as his dual nationality at the time of NA elections was being questioned.
Details: Subsequently, Barrister Pansota tweeted, “Government has got nothing to do with working of ECP. It’s an independent body functioning directly under the constitution.” On the other hand, the ECP instructed the PTI lawmaker to return the benefits that he had received as a parliamentarian and minister.
More: Dawn quoted the development as, “The commission observed that a person holding a nationality or citizenship of another country was required to obtain a declaration form from the country in question.. to qualify as a citizen of Pakistan.”
