Driveless taxi service to become a reality as Dubai plans to launch it in 2023

What happened: Dubai is planning to launch its driverless taxi service by 2023 as the Roads and Transport Authority started working on the service. Dubai’s RTA announced the development and said, “Human errors are responsible for more than 90% of accidents..” However, Dubai is yet to announce the exact dates of the driverless taxi service’s launch in the city.

Details: The cost of a driverless taxi is yet to be determined by the authority; however, a limited number of vehicles will be launched in this regard. It is pertinent to mention that Dubai will be the first city to issue rules for the commercial use of autonomous vehicles. According to Dubai’s RTA, the driverless taxi service will start by the end of 2022 and Dubai will become the only city outside the USA to operate such vehicles.

More: The driverless taxi can be used by the people of Dubai via a mobile app, just like other ride-sharing apps. But the only difference is that the customers will be able to control the ride’s experience as they’ll be able to customise climate control and radio stations.
