Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday appointed former spokesman of Punjab government Shahbaz Gill as his special assistant on political communication, reports The Express Tribune.
“The prime minister, in terms of Rule 4(6) of the Rules of Business, 1973 read with serial No1 A of Schedule V-A of the said Rules has been pleased to appoint Dr Shahbaz Gill as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication, with immediate effect,” read a notification issued by the Cabinet Division. The above appointment shall be on an honorary basis, the notification further said.
Shahbaz Gill rose to prominence when he became an active and vocal spokesperson for Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, who was being criticised for his lack of leadership skills and incompetence. However, in September 2019, Gill stepped down from his post but was promised “a better position” in the federal government. Sources said Buzdar had decided to remove Gill from his post for transgressing his boundaries and promoting himself instead of his boss.
