Dilip Kumar was born at Qissa Khwani Bazaar in Peshawar in 1922. He was the fourth of 12 children to Ayesha and Mohammad Sarwar Khan. His parents chose the name, Mohammed Yusuf Khan for him. Dilip Kumar was his chosen stage name when he started his life-long career in the film industry. Dilip dreamt of a professional career in cricket but his father’s unstable financial situation as a fruit vendor compelled him to let go of that dream. When Dilip was encouraged to consider acting as a career he was left baffled as he had only seen a war documentary until then and had no idea about films and acting.
