Despite monsoon rains, Pakistan is among the 23 countries facing severe drought conditions 

What happened:  On the occasion of  World Desertification  and  Drought Day,  Pakistan’s climate change ministry has also alerted that by 2025 almost three-quarters of Pakistan will be  severely affected  by  drought.  The climate change ministry also highlighted that Pakistan is one of the top 23 countries suffering from drought as  “Desertification caused by human and environmental factors has left Pakistan scarred.”  Details:  Dawn has also quoted a source from Pakistan’s Climate CHange ministry as,  “factors have to lead to environmental degradation, loss of soil fertility, loss of biodiversity, and reduction in land productivity, exacerbating the vulnerability of the country’s fragile local communities.”  More:  Whereas, various publications have noted that Pakistan’s per capita water availability has dropped from 5060 cubic meters per year in 1951 to 908 cubic meters in 2022,  “the condition of the predominately arid country has worsened.”
