Despite inflation, Pakistan produced over 12 million phones in first 5 months of 2022 

What happened:  The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, in a statement, claimed that Pakistan produced more than 12.41 million phones and assembled in the local parts till May 2022. On the other hand, PTA stated that Pakistan ordered/imported 0.94 million phones.  Details:  Whereas, in May of 2022, Pakistan manufactured and assembled nearly three million phones,  “representing an 88% increase from the 13.05 million handsets manufactured in 2020.”  Subsequently, the import of mobile phones decreased from 2020 to 2021, as only 10.26 million mobile phones were imported in 2021, whereas 24.51 million in 2020. It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan imported mobile phones worth almost two billion dollars during the first eleven months of 2021-2022,  “despite an increase in local production.”
