What happened: The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has confirmed that different COVID-19 variants including Delta (Indian), Beta (South African), and Alpha (UK) have been detected in Pakistan. Such variants have been present in the country since May as per their study. Details: The NCOC is monitoring these variants in Pakistan through whole-genome sequencing of Covid-19 patients’ samples. The results are then shared with Field Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Division of NIH so that effective response can be taken such as quarantine and contact tracing.
